This picture was taken in the bayous of Louisiana
during a trip to New Orleans in 1993. I took the trip a week or two after having
re-constructive knee surgery. The doctor wasn't too happy. BUT A MAN'S GOTTA FISH! During
the trip, we stayed in a bayou cabin built on stilts (only accessible by boat). I was
taking a nap and my friends when fishing without me. Well, I was their to fish. So I
limped into a small, square canoe and proceeded to paddle out into the wild. While out in
the untamed water of the bayou, by myself, in a very small canoe, with my leg in a brace,
a guaranteed loser of any "survival of the fittest" contest, I bravely cast my
mighty lure into the unknown. To my surprise, a six foot alligator swam towards my lure,
became uninterested and swam right by the canoe. I started to ponder the saying, "In
the wild, they always go after the weak and the lame." I quickly paddled back to the
cabin.
